 Jacopo Ligozzi
 Oval Fabergé frame

With a result of EUR 2.4 million, while the original estimate was EUR 1.9 million, the first deLuxe Catalogue Auction at Lauritz.com has surpassed all expectations. The same combination of an exclusive catalogue and online auction had already been used at the auction of the Poulin collection of Skagen paintings at Lauritz.com last year, where many record hammer prices were also achieved.

One of the absolute highlights at deLuxe Catalogue Auctions was a drawing by the Renaissance artist Jacopo Ligozzi, who was court artist for the Florentine Medici family. 'Allegory of Gluttony' reached a hammer price of EUR 282,600 and the total including the buyer’s premium was EUR 339,100. The pen and ink drawing thus became the most expensive item ever sold at Lauritz.com, as well as the most expensive drawing by Ligozzi sold on auction. Read more…

Furthermore, there was a great demand for Russian items, especially due to the fact that many new Russian customers have registered at Lauritz.com. A beautiful gold-plated silver Fabergé frame was valued at EUR 10,000, but was eventually sold for EUR 45,000. A Louis XVI style aquamarine and diamond necklace, also by the famous Jeweller to the Russian Imperial Court, reached a hammer price of EUR 8,860, while a beautiful and rare Russian coronation dress in gold moiré with matching head piece valued at EUR 2,600 was sold for EUR 8,300.

Likewise, there were many Asian buyers who discovered some of the finest Oriental pieces. A large Chinese horse from the Han period (200 B.C. – 200 A.D.) was sold for EUR 37,000, while an impressive Japanese samurai suit of armour was sold for
EUR 5,370.

The Lizzie and Ejler Ruge collection of antiques is one of the few, larger Danish collections of its kind. And therefore, the sale became a great drawing point. Many of the finer European faiences were sold for four or five times the estimate, while the fine selections of silver got collectors from all over Europe jumping out of their chairs. A pair of royal silver candlesticks, which presumably belonged to the Danish Princess Charlotte Amalie, was valued at EUR 4,000, but after heated bidding reached a hammer price of EUR 14,000.

The centre piece in the Ruge collection was Jens Juel’s portrait of Mrs Tutein with her son Peter. Jens Juel is considered to be one of Denmark's greatest portrait painters and his productive workshop produced almost 900 portraits of nobility and the bourgeoisie during the 18th century. The portrait was sold for
EUR 135,500, with total price including buyer’s premium at EUR 162,600, and thus becoming the most expensive Jens Juel portrait sold on auction.

The next deLuxe Catalogue Auction is taking place in August-September.
