Rare antique book by Giovanni Battista Piranesi: Prima Parte di Architetture (1743) at auction at Lauritz.com
The Lauritz.com branch in Malmö has a very rare publication at auction at the moment. The full title of the book is Prima Parte di Architetture, e prospettive inventate ed incise da Gio. Batta Piranesi Architetto Veneziano dedicate al Sig. Nicola Giobbe (1743).
The book by Italian artist, archaeologist and architect Giovanni Battista Piranesi is valued at more than EUR 11,000 and dates from the 18th century, making it contemporary with the architect and thereby extremely rare. The publication is composed of engravings (titlesheet, 12 illustrations and 3 pages of text).
Provenance: In 2012, inherited from the Swedish landscape architect Gunnar Martinsson (1924-2012). In the 1950s received as a gift from the Italian architect Leopoldo Mastrella (1920-2005).
Another contemporary publication by Piranesi was sold in 2005 through Bonhams for US$ 19,975.
