Wine

Wine with historic quality
At Auktionshuset.com we do not only sell young wines but also older wines that are not available for sale in the shops. These are rare wines that appeal both to the senses of sight and smell, and provide an exceptional taste experience.

Ageing and improving

Wine – and in particular older wine – is a sensitive product. Some wine is excellent after many years of storage, while other wine cannot stand the test of time. Each wine bottle is a biological organism, and even where wine bottles are stored under precisely the same conditions, the contents can age completely differently. Some bottles may not age so well, while others may retain their quality and may even be greatly improved. Therefore Auktionshuset.com cannot guarantee the drinkability of the wine we sell.

Bottle fill level – ullage
Wine can evaporate through the cork, and the more wine that is lost from the bottle the greater the risk that the wine is not optimal. When a relatively large area of wine is in contact with oxygen in the bottle, the wine matures more quickly than when the bottle is completely full.

For bottles with Bordeaux, port and other wines in bottles with distinct shoulders, fill level is described as follows:

For bottles with Champagne, Rhône and Bourgogne fill level is measured in centimetres (cm) from the cork.

How to drink aged wines?
Wine older than 30 years should generally not be opened to ‘breathe’ before drinking but should be drunk immediately after opening.
