Beskrivelse

Pair of massive guarding lions (Chinese stone lions 石獅 / 石狮) on rectangular plinth.
Traditionally, guarding lions were placed next to entrance portals of important secular and religious buildings as well as bridges. They are associated with the power to ward off evil and bring luck. The male lion is holding a pearl underneath its paw and the female a young lion.
The pair of lions is made of marble, the plinth is of granite.

Lions: H approx. 93 cm. Plinth: H 42 cm, W 56 cm, D 77 cm.

Normal weathering and signs of age. Some remnants of rotted biomass in the folds. Plinth partly soiled, with scratches. (2)
