Description
Russian icon depicting John the Baptist as an angel dressed in suit of camel's hair, standing with a basket containing his severed head, tempera on wood panel with a pair of sponkhi. 18th century. 31.5 x 25 cm. Age-related signs of wear, flaking, restored.
This auction is part of Lauritz.com Helsingør's theme auction, 'Russian icons for the people!', which shows a wide range of iconic world designs, mainly in the form of icons painted on wood, but also some travel icons and crosses in brass.
