Description
Poul Henningsen 1894-1967. 'Piano Lamp', with adjustable, curved frame, counterweight, socket and contact box in Bakelite with in-line on/off button switch. Fitted with intact 2/2 shade set in amber-coloured glass and the bottom bowl. Produced by Louis Poulsen, 1940s, stamped 'PH lamps', 'PH-2', ' Patented'. Later, long textile cord. Minimal signs of wear age taken into account, restored with original PH parts from on/off switch on the fixture to an in-line on/off switch. Viewing by arrangement with Lauritz.com, Kolding.
History: The arm can be pivoted downwards, which makes it ideal for reading musical scores. Produced in a limited number in 1931, when the lamp cost DKK 45. Today, along with the American lamp, it stands as one of the most coveted and rare PH lamps among collectors around the world.
Literature: Tina Jørstian, Poul Erik Munk Nielsen (Eds.). 'Tænd!: PH lampens historie', with a later variant reproduced and discussed on p. 186.
