'Bang on a can' is part of the series 'Dead Porn Stars Forever', which thematizes late porn stars. The artistic idea is, according to Hornsleth, to research human lust, for good and bad. Over half of all internet activity is porn related and we all contribute to killing these young women when we click on them. The absurd texts on the paintings all have 'fine-cultural' undertones, which attempt to get us to consider which side we re on. The title 'A new beginning' refers to the impossible dream of 'starting afresh', which is why the woman is also pictured in front of the burning 9/11 buildings, which again is an ironic comment to the impossibility of a new beginning, both for New Yorkers, world citizens and porno stars.
