Description

Qajar dynasty (1796 to 1925). Pen case in painted, lacquered papier-mâché with European-inspired figure motifs on the front, oriental figures with horses, etc., on the sides and rose pattern on the base. Length 22.5 cm, H. 3 cm, W. 3.8 cm. Internal ink well with upper part in silver, decorated with figure, border, etc. Base in bronze, H. 22 mm, L. 5.4 cm. Plus small ladle for ink filling, L. 11.5 cm, trimming scissors for bamboo pens and small (later) spoon, L. 8.5 cm. With some age-related traces of use, including craquelure, signs of wear, and later repair to the opening of the pen case. (5)
