Description
Iron meteorite, came to earth over 100,000 years ago. Weight approx. 23 kg. Excavated 2.5 miles north of Kitkiöjärvi, Tornedalen. Dimensions approx. 28x22x15 cm. Unpolished.
Near the town of Kitkiöjärvi an iron-rich dwarf planet came to earth between 80,000 and 114,000 years ago. The celestial body spilt in the atmosphere before hitting the ground. The first meteorite in the area was found in 1906 by two children. Apart from iron several unusual metal have been recorded in meteorites from Kikiöjärvi, e.g. troilite (FeS) and stishovite (SiO2).
