Description

Järnmeteorit, nedslag för över 100.000 år sedan. Vikt ca 5,5 kg. Uppgrävd 2,5 mil norr om Kitkiöjärvi, Tornedalen. Mått 18x13x9 cm. Framstår uppolerad.

I trakterna kring byn Kitkiöjärvi slog en järnhaltig dvärgplanet ner någon gång mellan 800.000-114.000 år sedan. Kroppen splittrades i atmosfären innan den slog i marken. Den första meteoren i området hittades 1906 av två barn. Förutom järn har flera ovanliga metaller konstaterats i meteoriter från Kikiöjärvi, därbland Troilite (FeS) och Stishovite (SiO2)
