Description

Meteorite. Dimensions: 7 x 13 x 17.5 cm. Weight: 8,494 grams. Iron meteorite fell to earth over 100,000 years ago. Excavated 25 km north of Kitkiöjärvi, Tornedalen, Sweden. Near the town of Kitkiöjärvi, an iron-rich dwarf planet fell to earth approx. 80,000 to 114,000 years ago. It split in the atmosphere before hitting Earth. The first meteorite in the area was found in 1906 by two children. Apart from iron, several unusual metals have been recorded in meteorites from Kikiöjärvi, including troilite (FeS) and stishovite (SiO2).
