Description

Arne Jacobsen. First mock-up of a bedside table for SAS Hotel, c. 1957/1958. Front with drawer in maple, varnished body. Signs of wear. H. 14.5 cm. W. 50 cm. D. 50 cm.

Provenance: Architect Carl Johan Larsen's private furnishings.

Carl Johan Larsen's first employment as an architect was in 1957 at Arne Jacobsen's design studio, where he participated in the preparation and furnishing of the SAS Hotel. In connection with this, a trial room with a mock-up with the various hotel designs was made. This bedside table was the first draft of the final bedside tables/dressers with a front in wengé wood and body in blue Formica (laminate).

Carl Johan Larsen was employed by Arne Jacobsen until 1962, after which he started his own studio, 'Hjembæk', which he operated until the end of 2017.
