Obey/Shepard Fairey b. 1970, USA
Obey/Shepard Fairey. Untitled, print, collage and varnish on skateboard, signed, L. 79 cm.
Obey or Frank Shepard Fairey is a contemporary artist, graphic artist and illustrator, who has grown up in the skateboard scene. He first became known for his 'André the Giant Has a Posse' sticker campaign, but later became well-known all over the world as the man behind President Obama’s iconic election campaign with posters and stickers: 'HOPE' and 'PROGRESS'. He is one of the present time’s best known and most influential street artists. His works form part of the permanent collections at The Smithsonian, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, etc.
The work is a print and collage on skateboard in Obey’s usual iconic style – the American flag mixed with recognized symbols of freedom, and torn into pieces but at the same time assembled, possibly Fairey’s snapshot of USA right now?

The skateboard is an artwork. It is however possible to attach wheels.

The work is on display at KPH-Volume, Enghavevej 84, 2450 Copenhagen SW from 14-15 May 2011, after which it can be viewed at Lauritz.com’s showroom in Herlev 17-26 May 2011.

The entire sales proceeds will go to Skateistan's projects in Afghanistan. Lauritz.com donates both buyer's premium and seller's commission.
