Rare Rolex men's watch, model Explorer, ref.nr.: 5500, cal. 1520. Steel case. Black dial with Arabic numerals and baton index, Plexiglas. Fitted with rubber strap at later date. Back of stamped stamped with, amongst other things, 'IV.67', which presumably informs that the watch left the factory the fourth month of 1967, automatic movement. Ø. 34 mm.
Signs of wear, scratches, renovated and relumed dial and hands, newer crown. '

In the late 1950's, Rolex produced an edition of the Air-King (ref.nr.: 5500) with an Explorer dial. The watch had a 19 mm. bracelet instead of the usual 20 mm. Information indicates that this special model was only produced from 1965 to 1969 for the British military to use in the Far East.
