Description

Finn Juhl 1912-1989. 'Chieftain chair', lounge chair, solid walnut frame, original upholstered in red 'Queen' leather. Designed in 1949. Produced and stamped by OneCollection. Well maintained with minimal signs of wear. Finn Juhl designed this chair for the Snedkerlauget exhibition in 1949. It must be recognised as the most striking and significant of all his furniture. The chair’s frame was inspired by primitive people's weapons and day-to-day items. After King Frederik IX had tried the chair, a journalist asked if it should now be called the King's chair. Finn Juhl found this too pretentious and replied, “Call it rather a chieftain chair”. Literature: Grete Jalk [ed.].
