Description
Russian icon depicting St Nicholas, tempera on wood panel, recessed image surface (kovcheg), border with pair of saints on the edge. Russia, late 16th century/early 17th century. 37.5 x 31.5 cm. Age-related signs of wear, repair of crack on panel.
Provenance: The Danish icon collector Egon Sommer, author of the book 'Russian Icons'.
Exhibited Funen Art Museum, 1993; Geo-Art Frederiksværk, 1997; Koldinghus, 1998; Horsens Museum, 1999. Recently Esrum Monastery in 2001, where it also was reproduced in the catalogue.
