Description

Palle Suenson and Hans J. Wegner (the latter attributed). Two-seater coupé sofa with a frame in painted wood, frame upholstered in patinated leather. H. 118 W. 124,5 cm. Displays usage-related traces of wear, patina, holes, cracks and wear on the leather. Woodwork later painted, loose spring cushion as well as the seat cushion missing.

Helsingør Jernskibs og Maskinbyggeri (Helsingør Shipyard) commissioned by Palle Suenson's design studio for the furnishing of M/S Venus, which was to be renovated after having been seized by Germany during the war. Suenson employed Hans J. Wegner for this specific purpose. Coupé sofa and armchairs in the same design were later used on the ferries of the Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab A/S (DFDS) sailing on the Copenhagen - Aalborg route among others. Jens Bang and H.P.
