Jens Peter Dahl-Jensen
The sculptor and designer Jens Peter Dahl-Jensen (1874-1960) is one of the great names in Danish porcelain. After working as a master modeler at Bing & Grøndahl, he started his own porcelain factory Dahl Jensen in 1925, which became known for the great quality of craftsmanship and detail, as well as the deep, saturated colors in the glaze that made the figures very lifelike. Dahl-Jensen was an eminent animal interpreter, but from the 1930s the porcelain factory began producing some remarkable oriental figures with Siamese temple dancers, Japanese geishas, dancers from Java and Egypt, but also Moroccan belly dancers that cemented J. P. Dahl-Jensen as an international name today. He regularly used his own family as models, but for these figures he found the models among visiting circus artists. He also had a small production of bronze, which is also represented at this auction.
