Wegner - the master of the chair

The Wishbone Chair, the China Chair, the Papa Bear Chair, the Peacock Chair. Hans Jørgensen Wegner (1914–2007) is known as the master of the chair. Over his long life, he developed more than 500 different chairdesigns, many of which today stand as design icons. Wegner is one of the most significant figures in Danish design and a key player in the movement that later became known as Danish Modern, which put Danish design on the global map. His furniture is exhibited in design museums around the world, and there is hardly a book on modern design in which he is not mentioned.

He did not see himself as a great oridealistic innovator. For him, it was about a constant and step-by-step journey toward the perfect chair—refining and simplifying along the way. “If only one could design one good chair in one’s lifetime, but alas, one cannot,” he is said to have remarked. Many would likely disagree with him on that.

Right now, we are celebrating Wegner's 110th birthday with a wide selection of his furniture. See and place your bids below.
