How does Classic Auktion work?

The Classic Auction is held four times a year at our auction house in Hørsholm. The auction follows the traditional saleroom format, with an auctioneer conducting the sale and bidders present in the room, while clients can also follow the auction and bid by telephone or online in real time.

Two weeks before the Classic Auction, the pre-auction opens, allowing bidders to place bids on the lots in advance. The pre-auction is part of the Classic Auction, so all bids placed in advance remain valid when the live auction begins in Hørsholm.

The Classic Auction differs from our regular online auctions in both format and the selection of lots. We continuously source new consignments for each Classic Auction. These may include rare or particularly interesting objects, high-quality works of art and design, or lots that our specialists consider especially well suited to this auction format.

If you are unsure whether your item is suitable for the Classic Auction, you are always welcome to have it valued by one of our specialists, who can advise you on the most appropriate way to proceed.

Conditions

The catalogue for the Classic Auction is available on Lauritz.com. Lot descriptions are provided for guidance only, and we recommend inspecting the lots during the viewing. Upon request, we are happy to provide a condition report describing the condition of a particular lot.

You can place bids in the pre-auction until two hours before the Classic Auction begins. After this, your bid will automatically become an absentee bid for the Classic Auction in Hørsholm. The highest bid reached during the pre-auction will therefore become the opening bid at the Classic Auction. If you have entered a higher maximum bid, a member of the Lauritz.com team will continue bidding on your behalf, up to your specified maximum amount.

Be aware that a bid placed during the pre-auction is not necessarily a winning bid, as you may be outbid during the live auction. Everyone is welcome to attend and bid at the Classic Auction – in the saleroom, by telephone or live online at Lauritz.com. To place a bid, you must be registered as a customer at Lauritz.com.

Please note that there is no right of withdrawal for purchases made at a Classic Auction, regardless of how the bid was placed. For further information, please see our Terms and Conditions of Purchase, available in the catalogue, on our website and in the saleroom on the day of the auction.
