Anthonore Christensen (1849-1926): Yellow Roses. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated. 33 x 50 cm. (48.5 x 65.5 cm.)

Anthonore Christensen was a flower painter and her motifs range from delicate, flowering branches to plants, depicted in their natural habitat. In 1919 she told the newspaper 'København':
"It was not enough for me to bring the flowers home to the living room and paint them in a jar or in a glass, as the time demanded. I wanted to have the little piece of nature on which they grew."
